“New brain injury test evaluates motor skills”
July 22, 2004
There are five million Americans living with lasting effects of a brain injury. In the past, brain injury patients were set up with a trained evaluator to determine if the brain injury patient was able to drive safely again. A new high-tech test can eliminate the risks of the previous evaluating methods by using a simulator that will see if the brain injury patient can analyze the environment, successfully scan and predict what an individual in another car is doing.
These new methods will also help better identify what specific problems the brain injury is causing the patient. Especially for the most severe traumatic brain injury cases, the ability to look exactly at the patient's coordination and response timing without risking the safety of other people is a breakthrough in brain injury treatments.
