“Natural Disasters May Influence Traumatic Brain Injury in Infants”

Researchers in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, warn that cases of traumatic brain injury among infants rise after natural disasters, such as hurricanes or floods. The study, which focused on infant injuries consistent with shaking, suggests that families are “vulnerable to an elevated risk of inflicted and non-inflicted child traumatic brain injury following a disaster,” says Dr. Heather Keenan, a researcher at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
